Clarinet Concerto

After Martin Fröst's successful début with the Los Angeles Philharmonic earlier this spring he will now return to LA to take part in the Ojai Festival playing Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto as well as chamber music with Leif Ove Andsnes and Marc-André Hamelin. This time he will bring his family along to enjoy the nature, the sea and the ambience of Ojai.

Later in June, Martin will be in Vienna, where earlier this season he performed in the Musikverein. He returns to appear in the Konzerthaus playing the Mozart Concerto with Wiener Symphoniker and Osmo Vänskä.

At the beginning of July Martin will complete his new Mozart recording for BIS on which he conducts and plays the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie. The recording will also include the Kegelstatt Trio with Leif Ove Andsnes and Antoine Tamestit.

As a frequent guest at the Verbier Festival, Martin will, as always, enjoy going back to make music in the beautiful surroundings of this famous festival.

As artistic leader of the Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival, Martin joins Christian Ihle Hadland and the crew at Stavanger for their 4th year of programming. This year he will also give Masterclasses together with Hermann Stefánsson! Sign up for the master class before June 15th!

In August Martin will also make his début at the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York, playing their closing concerts in Lincoln Center, Avery Fisher Hall with the Mostly Mozart Orchestra under Festival Director Louis Langrée.

At the end of August, Martin returns to Stockholm to participate in the Baltic Sea Festival , performing the Nielsen Clarinet Concerto together with the Baltic Youth Orchestra under Kristjan Järvi. This programme will also be played in Copenhagen in the Concert Hall of the Danish Radio.

World Première in the Concertgebouw

Martin Fröst is now preparing the new clarinet concerto by Bent Sörensen and will première it in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw after the Summer. Martin performs the world première of this new concerto in Amsterdam and Cologne with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra under Michael Schønwandt.

Martin Fröst is now on Facebook

‘Dear Friends, Fans, Grandmothers, Grandfathers, Sons, Daughters, Mothers, Fathers, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and everybody else! I finally overcame my hesitation and opened an official Facebook page where I will be writing regularly.’

Royal Medal and Soloist Award

Martin Fröst, who was recently awarded the Swedish Royal Medal Litteris et Artibus (which he will receive from the hands of HRH King Karl XVI Gustaf on the 15th June 2012) has again been singled out for a number of exceptional honours. This time it is the venerable Choir of the University of Lund ‘Lunds Studentsångare’ which has bestowed on him their Soloist Price. The Choir of the University of Lund has chosen Martin Fröst for "his ability to expand beyond musical conventions with world encompassing artistry and virtuosic warmth". The jury especially expressed admiration for him as a contemporary intermediary of classical music. The prize of SEK 150'000 will be presented at a gala concert on October 27th.

The Independent

‘...one of the best, most recognised respected soloists around the world...music fans were quietly thanking God that they had been allowed to experience this concert.’
Anzeiger Harlingerland  2012

‘There are just not enough superlatives to describe the amazing performance of Martin Frost. He is certainly the reigning exponent of the clarinet today with a performance style totally unique and technically astounding...The audience was immediately on their feet for a standing ovation...I hope that he will return to this stage often in the future.’
Hollywood Today  2012

‘Mr. Frost — with a tone more slender than plump, yet full and sensuous — lacked nothing in agility or power, as needed, but he was most astonishing in the beauty.’
New York Times

‘A truth is not lessened by being repeated. So let us just repeat that the Swede Martin Fröst plays the clarinet in a class of his own. What he can do musically and technically with his instrument seems completely limitless.’
www.dr.dk  2012

‘Martin Fröst’s phenomenal breath control allows him to spin out melodic lines of gossamer lightness...I’ve never heard it more beguilingly done.’
